Covettes Recalled, Roof May Separate

General Motors is recalling Corvettes because of a removable roof that may inadvertently separate from the car’s frame. This recall involves just over 22,000 model year 2005-2007 Corvettes and model year 2006-2007 Corvette Z06 vehicles.

Tylenol Arthritis Caplets Recalled Over Musty Odor, Illness Reports

Consumer reports of a musty odor, as well as nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea have prompted a recall of all product lots of Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles, with the distinctive red EZ-OPEN CAP. This is an expansion of a recall McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued in November.

According to McNeil, the uncharacteristic smell associated with recalled Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplets is caused by the presence of trace amounts of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisole. The source of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole is believed to be the breakdown of a chemical used to treat wooden pallets that transport and store packaging materials. The health effects of this compound have not been well studied, but McNeil said that so far, to date all of the reported adverse reactions have been temporary and non-serious. (more…)

Beef recalled by National Steak and Poultry, of Owasso, Oklahoma has been tied to an outbreak of E. coli O157 H7 in six western states.

OsmoPrep Named in Kidney Damage Lawsuit

Four people with kidney damage severe enough to require dialysis are blaming OsmoPrep, a prescription bowel cleansing product, for their condition. They have filed a lawsuit in North Carolina against Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd., and Salix Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

The plaintiffs in this lawsuit claim to have suffered acute phosphate nephropathy because of their use of OsmoPrep. The OsmoPrep lawsuit alleges that Salix was aware of the risks of serious kidney damage at the time of first marketing OsmoPrep and up until health regulators mandated stronger warnings for the product. Trials Approaching in Chinese Drywall Debacle

A Florida couple could see their Chinese drywall lawsuit go to trial soon. According to The Miami Herald, all of the legal roadblocks facing Melissa and Jason Harrells’ lawsuit were recently cleared.

The couple’s Homestead home, built in 2006, was plagued with corrosion problems and odors typical of the type attributed to Chinese drywall. The Harrells were forced out of their home after several family members experienced breathing problems. They filed suit in March, against South Kendall Construction, Palm Holdings, Keys Gate Realty and Banner Supply. (more…)

Byetta, a drug made by Amylin Pharmaceuticals to treat type 2 diabetes, is undergoing new safety studies per a request from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). The studies are looking at Byetta’s possible association with inflammation of the pancreas, acute renal failure and thyroid neoplasms (usually cancer of the thyroid).

Parent and caregivers who purchased “Leopard” highchairs at Ikea are being warned not to used them. The Ikea “Leopard” highchairs pose a choking a fall hazard to children.

This recall involves all colors of the “Leopard” highchairs sold as a seat and a frame individually. The seat and tray has an adhesive label affixed to the underside with the words Leopard and “Made in Italy,” an eight-digit article number and a five-digit supplier number (19589). (more…)
