CPSC Reissues Recall for Exploding Children’s Aromatherapy Kits

There have been 12 more reports of explosions linked to Spa Factory™ Aromatherapy Fountain & Bath Benefits Kits, prompting the US Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) to re-issue a recall for the children’s kits that was first announced in January 2009. The latest explosions have been linked to 13 new injuries.

JAKKS Pacific® Spa Factory™ Spa Fantasy Aromatherapy Fountain & Bath Benefits Kits were sold at Sam’s Club, Walmart, Target, and other stores nationwide from August 2008 through August 2010. They sold for between $13 and $50 and continue to be available in some stores. (more…)

Another Danger from China: Cadmium in Children’s Jewelry

Children’s jewelry sold at Wal-Mart, dollar stores and other retailers has been found to contain cadmium, a high toxic substance. According to the Associated Press, Chinese manufacturers likely switched to using cadmium in the jewelry because they are barred from using lead.

Overall, 12 percent of 103 pieces of jewelry tested by the Associated Press contained at least 10 percent cadmium. The most contaminated piece analyzed contained a whopping 91 percent cadmium by weight. Other pieces of jewelry tested at 89 percent, 86 percent and 84 percent by weight. (more…)

Toy Dart Guns Recalled, Pose Choking Hazard

Toy dart guns blamed for the death of a child are being recalled today.  According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), this recall involves  “Action Team” Toy Dart Gun Sets imported by OKK Trading Inc., of Los Angeles, Calif.

The CPSC and OKK Trading have received one report of the November 2007 death of an 8-year-old boy in Port Arthur, Texas. The child reportedly was chewing on a toy dart that came with the set when he inadvertently swallowed it and it became lodged in his throat blocking his ability to breathe. (more…)

Lead Paint Violations Prompt Toy Truck Recall

Toy trucks that violate the federal lead paint standard have just been recalled.   According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall involves about 700 “Super Rig Transport” toy trucks  with trailer and vehicles sold at discount store in the southwest U.S.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement product. (more…)

Mattel Reaches Settlement Agreement in Toy Recall Lawsuits

Toymaker Mattel Inc. has reached an agreement to settle “virtually all” lawsuits related to its 2007 recalls of lead-tainted toys.  That year, the toymaker and its Fisher-Price division issued six recalls for more than 2 million toys.

Lead-Tainted Action Figure Toys Recalled

The Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of toy action figures that were made with lead paint.  The recalled toy action figures were distributed by Liquidation Outlet, Inc. and sold in Dollar Stores in Washington and Oregon States from September 2007 through July 2009.

Lead poisoning is considered by many experts to be one of the most important chronic environmental illnesses affecting children today.  Exposure to lead in children and unborn children can cause brain and nervous system damage, behavioral and learning problems, slowed growth, hearing problems, headaches, mental and physical retardation, and behavioral and other health problems. Lead is also known to cause cancer and reproductive harm. (more…)

Firms Agree to Lead Paint Fines

Nine manufacturers of children’s products will pay  fines  for selling items that violated the federal lead paint ban in settlements with Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).

Pacifiers Recalled for Choking Hazard

“Jaloma” pacifiers are being recalled by Gromex Inc., of Passaic, N.J. because they pose a choking hazard.

According to the recall notice, the Jaloma pacifiers’ mouth guard and the ventilation holes are too small and fail to meet federal safety standards. The pacifier could pose a choking and aspiration hazard to young children. No injuries have been reported so far. (more…)

Loaded Boards Inc. Recalls Skateboard Wheels

Consumers are being warned about a recall of Orangatang Skateboard Wheels distributed by Loaded Boards Inc., of Beverly Hills, Calif.  Anyone with these skateboard wheels should stop using them immediately and contact Loaded Boards Inc. or any authorized dealer for a free replacement.

According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall involves about 1200 sets of Orangatang “In-Heat” skateboard wheels. They were sold in two styles: 75mm/purple/83a durometer and 75mm/orange/80a durometer. The words “orangatang,” “In Heat,” and the size and durometer are written on the sidewall of the wheel. The wheels were sold in sets of four at authorized Loaded Boards/Orangatang Wheels dealers nationwide from March 2009 through April 2009 for about $55 per set. (more…)

CPSC Announces Body Board Recall

Consumers are being warned today to return some body boards imported by JGR Copa LLC, of Hollywood, Fla. to their place of purchase.   According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the body boards are being recalled  due to violations of the federal lead paint standard.

Lead exposure can cause brain and nervous system damage, behavioral and learning problems, slowed growth, hearing problems, headaches, mental and physical retardation, and behavioral and other health problems in children and unborn children. Even at very low levels, lead is harmful to children’s health and at elevated blood lead levels children experience neurological problems, anemia, lower IQ scores, and shortened attention spans. At elevated levels, children can suffer from comas, seizures, and death. (more…)
