According to a report on KMOV.com, the accident occurred on eastbound I-44 in Gray Summit, Missouri, bout 40 miles west of St. Louis, around 10:15 a.m. local time. The crash involved the school buses, a tractor-trailer, and the pickup, which was wedged under the school bus.
The school buses were carrying students from John F. Hodge High in St. James.
